STAC BASEBALL: OWEGO DROPS 8-INNING HEARTBREAKER (2019-05-15)
Tioga County Sports ReportBINGHAMTON — Owego dropped a 3-2, eight-inning heartbreaker to Binghamton here Wednesday after scoring in its final regulation at-bats to send the game into extra innings.
Kyle Koprevich scored on a wild pitch to tie the game in the top of the seventh. He and Karson Tofte were hit by pitches by the Patriots’ Chris Balshuweit, an both base-runners were put in scoring position by Joey Higgins’ groundout.
Balshuweit scored the winning run, drawing a walk, moving up on a Tyler Kopolow single and scoring on Zach Bell’s base hit.
The Indians scored the game’s initial run after Koprevich reached on an error. H moved to third on a Tofte sacrifice an scored on Mason Rieg’s single.
In the fourth, Balshuweit singled, Kopolow doubled and Bell sacrificed a run home. Nick Delanoy’s groundout gave Binghamton 2-1 advantage.
Kopolow accounted for two of the Patriots’ five hits.
Kithcart went 1-for-3 for Owego, and Rieg and Nate Bennett both went 10-for-4.
Kithcart went the distance on the mound, striking out nine while scattering five hit and one walk over 7 2/3 innings.
Owego hosts U-E at 4:30 p.m. Friday.
