IAC GIRLS TRACK & FIELD: NEWARK VALLEY LEADS LOCAL EFFORT AT FAST TIMES INVITATIONAL (12-PHOTOS) (2019-05-11)

Tioga County Sports Report
CORNING — Newark Valley posted a pair of runner-up efforts and grabbed four thirds at the Fast Times Invitational here Friday.

Sophie Stewart placed second in the 400 hurdles with a time if 1:09.64 and Madison Sherwood was second in the triple jump with a leap of 33-11.25.

Kayla Malarkey took third in the 100 hurdles in 17.46 seconds and third in the high jump, clearing 4-3. Also third were Sherwood, who hit 9-3 in the pole vault, and Maris Aylesworth in the long jump with a leap of 15-5.

Additional scoring athletes from the local area were:

Candor’s Mya Marsh, 4th, 400 (1:06.78).

Newark Valley’s Emma Miller, Molly McCloskey, Stewart and Marissa Silba, 4th, 4x800 relay (10:42.39).

Silba, 6th, 400 (1:07.18).

NV’s Kathryn Simmons, 7th, 100 (14.5).

Newark Valley’s Malarkey, Simmons, Aylesworth and Sherwood, 7th, 4x100 relay (54.54).

Candor’s Leah O’Connell, 8th, 800 (2:31.75).

Next up are the league championships. Owego competes in the STAC championships Thursday at Johnson City. Candor and Newark Valley head to the IAC championships Thursday and Friday at Trumansburg.
