OWEGO — Owego scored nine straight goals in the second and third quarters en route to a 20-3 thrashing of U-E here Thursday.
The Indians’ Connor Kinney played a key role in the run, figuring in on seven of the goals, including the doling out of four consecutive assists.
Leading, 4-1, Jo Race scored on a pass form Luke Maslin just 1:11 into the second period, then Kinney scored on a feed from Justin Brown at 8:43. Kinney would then dish out assists to Maslin at 7:47, Cooper Phelps at 3:58, Tyler Phelps at 1:22 and then to Cooper Phelps again with 57.8 seconds remaining in the half.
With a 10-1 cushion in hand, the Indians found the back of the net again 40 seconds into the third quarter on a Ben Miller tally with an assist to Cole Taylor. Kinney scored on a pass from Cooper Phelps at 9:16 and Taylor scored on a feed from Kinney at 8:21.
The Tigers would get back on the scoreboard with an unassisted goal by Luke Taylor at 5:13, making the score 13-2.
Owego closed out the period with a goal from Cole Taylor, assisted by Kinney, at 3:25 and an unassisted tally by Kinney at 2:05, giving the home team a 15-2 advantage heading into the final frame.
Kinney scored at 10:40, then Luke Taylor gave U-E its final goal at 9:27. Miller scored unassisted at 6:03, Kinney scored on a pass from Race at 5:05, Brent Bachmann tallied on a feed from Maslin at 2:44 and Brown finished off the scoring on a pass from Cole Taylor at 1:34.
The Indians never trailed as Miller put away a pass from Tyler Phelps just 51 seconds after the initial face-off was held. Tyler Phelps, on a pass from Kinney, would sandwich a goal between two unassisted tallies by Maslin. The Maslin goals came at 7:29 and 4:49, and the Phelps shot went in at 6:56.
Zach Miner and Brandon Worzel made five and two saves, respectively, for the Indians.
Owego (8-6) travels to SUNY Oswego in Section III Saturday to play General Brown, ranked third in the state in Class D.
