STAC SOFTBALL: OWEGO PLAYS WELL IN LOSS TO STATE CHAMPION (2019-04-29)

Tioga County Sports Report
ENDWELL — Three-time defending Class A state champion M-E remained unbeaten with a win over Owego here Monday, but the Indians’ head coach was impressed with her team’s effort.

“We played at M-E and lost 6-2, but played well against a great team,” Keri Lavender said.

The Spartans scored twice in the first inning on a double by Meredith Rose, a bunt single by Melissa Deme, an RBI single from Allie L’Amoreaux and a single by Angela Desantis.

Owego pitcher Chelsea Sellars and the Indian defense would hold M-E in check until the fourth inning, when Aryn Bicksler singled, Deme reached on an error and L’Amoreaux followed with an RBI double.

The Indians would erase the goose egg in the sixth on a Grace Thomas base hit which was followed by a two-run blast from Miki Worzel.

M-E added its final run in its half of the sixth when Desantis belted a two-run home run.

Thomas would lead Owego at the plate, going 2-for-3. Anna Felice went 1-for-2 and Worzel was 1-for-3.

M-E, ranked No. 2 in the state, improved to 7-0 with the win.

Owego (4-6) hosts Vestal at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.
