STAC TRACK & FIELD: BOWERS LEADS OWEGO EFFORT AT MOLLY DRY INVITATIONAL (2019-04-12)
Tioga County Sports ReportMANSFIELD, Pa. — Nate Bowers crossed the finish line more than 10 seconds ahead of the next closest competitor to win the 1600-meter run at the Molly Dry Invitational held at Mansfield University Friday.
The Owego senior posted a time of 4:37.46 to top the field of 35 runners, which was divided into two sections due to the number of competitors entered. His closest challenger was Alex Patton of Wyalusing, Pennsylvania, who clocked 4:48.31.
The Indian boys would finish 10th in the 22-team field with 30 points. Horseheads won the meet with 106 points and Waverly was the runner-up with 91.
Other Owego boys scoring points included Colby Selover, who took second in the discus with a throw of 135-5 and sixth in the shot put with a heave of 38-9 1/2.
James McDonald placed fourth in the 2,000 steeplechase with a time of 7:17.05.
Augustus Cantella finished sixth in the 100 in 12.04 seconds.
The quartet of Eaan Hackett, Joel Choynowski, Gavin Watkins and Ashton Lewis took eighth, clocking 9:11.75.
In the girls meet, Danielle Knapp was Owego’s lone point scorer. She placed sixth in the 2,000 steeplechase with a time of 9:30.44.
Owego returns to STAC action April 24 at Johnson City.
