IAC BASEBALL: NEWARK VALLEY LOSES DIVISION LEAD WITH LOSS TO DRYDEN (17 PHOTOS) (2019-04-10)

NEWARK VALLEY — Dryden rode 14 hits and five walks to a 12-6 IAC Division 3 victory over Newark Valley here Wednesday.

The Purple Lions’ win was aided by five doubles and five NV base runners stranded in scoring position.

Dryden picked up three runs on four singles and a walk to start the game. The Cardinals got a run back in their half of the inning after Kyle Coffin singled and scored on Joey Woodmansee’s base hit.

Sam Dow’s two-run double plated two more runs for the Lions in the second.

NV closed the gap to 5-3 in the third when Mikey Wandell singled and Evan Powell doubled, and Woodmansee drove them home with a double.

The Lions batted around the order in the fourth and rode five singles, a double and a walk to a 10-3 advantage.

Wandell sandwiched a double between singles by Coffin and Powell in the bottom of the fourth, trimming the lead to 10-5.

In the fifth, Cody Senecal delivered an RBI double for the Lions, and Coffin walked and scored his third run of the game.

Dryden added another run in the seventh.

Wendell went 4-for-4 for the Cardinals with two runs. Coffin went 2-for-3 with three runs, Powell was 2-for-3 with a run, and Woodmansee and Sam Durand were both 2-for-4.

NV (3-2) slips into a three-way tie for second in the division with Waverly and Dryden while Notre Dame (3-1) takes the top spot.

The Cardinals host ND Friday at 4:30 p.m.
