Tioga County Sports Report
TIOGA COUNTY - Local boys basketball teams boasted plenty of talent this past season - the majority of it coming from upper classmen. There was none better than Owego senior Kobe Bogart, who has been named the 2018-19 Tioga County Sports Report Boys Basketball “Player of the Year.”

Senior teammate Christian Sage was selected the “Defensive Player of the Year” and Newark Valley’s Donavin Beebe was chosen the “Newcomer of the Year.” Owego head coach Chris Evans was chosen “Coach of the Year" to round out the 2018-19 All-Tioga County Boys Basketball Team.

Bogart, a senior, was one of the most dangerous shooters around, whether it was driving the lane, pulling up for a short jumper or canning on from beyond the arc. He averaged 21.7 points per game, but was also an unselfish team player, handing out 3.0 assists per outing. He also contributed 9.1 rebounds and 2.1 steals per contest.

Only 5-foot-8, Sage’s leaping ability helped the point guard average 5.6 boards, almost four per game on the defensive end. His quickness helped him average 2.6 steals per game. He also chipped in with 14.2 points and 5.8 assists per game.

Beebe, a sophomore, averaged 9.0 points per game, second on the team. He led the Cardinals in rebounding, pulling down 7.2 boards per contest, and averaged 3.6 offensive rebounds and 2.3 blocked shots per game.

Evans led his charges to the program’s first berth in the state playoffs. The Indians went 16-2 during the regular season, winning the STOP DWI-Winter Classic, the Rosemary Corcoran Holiday Classic and the STAC Metro title in the process. Owego (19-4 overall) would avenge a loss to Seton Catholic in the STAC title game by upending the Saints in the Section IV Class B championship clash before bowing out in the state quarterfinals to eventual runner-up Lowville.
