NY STATE INDOOR TRACK & FIELD: OWEGO'S BOWERS, SZABO COMPETE IN STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS (2019-03-02)
Tioga County Sports ReportSTATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - Owego's Nate Bowers and Cameron Szabo completed their high school indoor running careers Saturday at the 2019 NYSPHSAA Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Ocean Breeze Track and Field Facility here.
Szabo finished 14th in the 1,000-meter run, clocking 2:35.84. He came into the event seeded 19th at 2:37.17.
Among the competitors he defeated in a field of 32 runners were Horseheads' Juan Owen, who was seeded 16th and took 18th (2:37.43), and the top seed, Midwood's Ermiyas Harper, who placed 20th.
Bronxville's Matthew Rizzo won the race, registering a time of 2:24.06.
Bowers placed 24th in the 36-runner field in the 3200, holding his seed. He recorded a time of 9:48.63.
Also competing in the race from Section IV were Corning's Nathan Lawson, 15th (9:30.15), and JT Ryan, 30th (10:03.34). They were seeded 23rd and 27th, respectively.
Saratoga Springs' Shea Weilbaker, favored heading into the race, crossed the finish line first with a time of 9:04.62.
