SECTION IV BOYS BASKETBALL: S-VE'S IMPRESSIVE SEASON COMES TO AN END (10 PHOTOS) (2019-02-23)

Tioga County Sports Report
SPENCER - S-VE's impressive season came to an end here Saturday with a 55-49 loss to Newfield in the Section IV Class C quarterfinals.

Despite being the ninth seed, the Trojans had won two of three previous meetings with the Panthers this season, including a recent IAC South Small School tie-breaker.

The top-seeded Panthers just didn't have their "A" game this time and Newfield was able to use that to its advantage in the third quarter.

Josh Wood scored seven of his game-high 19 points and Daejahd Leckey contributed six of his 14 in the third quarter to turn a 23-22 halftime edge into a 40-32 bulge. Nine of their 13 combined points in the period came from beyond the arc.

The duo finished the game with three 3-pointers apiece. Wood also went 6-for-6 at the free throw line to lead a 15-for-18 effort at the stripe.

Noah Mack matched Wood's 19 points and also had two steals and a block for S-VE, which finished the season at 15-4.

Matthew Byrne added 10 points and Nathan Mack posted seven points, 11 rebounds, three steals and two blocks. James Sutherlin chipped in with eight points and three assists, and Brian Gillette scored five points and blocked one shot.
