Tioga County Sports Report
BAINBRIDGE, N.Y. - It's easy to forget Newark Valley is a young team, because there are times when the Cardinals' play like a veteran squad. Then there are those moments when their youth shows.

The Cardinals showed that youthfulness in the second quarter Friday, scoring just three points in a 54-44 Section IV Class C quarterfinal loss to Bainbridge-Guilford here.

NV had pulled in front, 15-13, after the first quarter, but the Bobcat defense shut the Cardinals down in Q2 to grab a 27-18 halftime lead.

B-G standout Abigail Selfridge scored 10 of her game-high 21 points to lead the charge. She went-6-for-7 at the free throw line, finishing the evening 11-for-15 at the stripe.

In the opening frame, Mackenna Nechwedowich and Hannah Ferguson accounted for five points apiece. The duo, plus Bri Beebe, knocked down one 3-pointer each.

Ferguson would finish the evening with three threes and a team-high 14 points. Nechwedowich added 10 points and Beebe contributed eight points, which included two treys. Ali Wandell tallied seven points, Gracie Gardner had four, and Kendra Morris and Taylor Benjamin added two piece.

Ashley Mathews and Erica Selfridge scored 11 and 10 points, respectively, for B-G (18-2).

Newark Valley ends the season at 16-4.
