WATKINS GLEN - In their previous meeting, Watkins Glen pulled out a last-second victory over Newark Valley. This time around, the Senecas dominated the middle periods en route to a 64-33 rout that would clinch the IAC South Large School title here Friday night.
The Glen held a slim 13-10 lead heading into the second quarter, at which time the Seneca defense was able to hold NV to four points while their offense erupted for 21. WG would proceed to put the game away in the third quarter, outscoring NV, 18-6.
Watkins Glen was led by Joe Chedzoy’s 18-point effort while Isaac McIlroy and Mitchell Pike added 15 and 11 points, respectively. Collin Baker had seven points, 11 rebounds and two blocked shots and Jacob DeJong added seven points.
Kyle Coffin led the Cardinals with 11 points. Andrew Obregon scored six, Dan Cowulich had five and Jason Graham added four.
Newark Valley visits Edison Tuesday.
